Former world champion Hayden Virtue is currently competing in the 2014 Sailing Canoe World Championships with some help from the team at Transvoras.
Transvoras facilitated the shipping of Hayden’s canoe from his home base in Wodonga to the current World Championships in San Francisco, which run until September 16th.
“My goal is to win the 2014 Sailing Canoe World Championship in San Francisco USA Sept 6th to16th. With some support to get my boat there and back from Australia I have won before I believe it’s a realistic goal,” he says.
Hayden competes for the titled with his new rules IC AUS40 canoe, named Acrobat. He missed out on defending his 2008 title in 2011 and says he is very keen to make a good showing with the boat he designed and built himself. It’s a well proved boat in Australia, however internationally it’s an unknown quantity.
The International Canoe is the oldest dingy class in the world and is essentially a paddle canoe which has evolved over 150 year racing history to a high performance racing dingy.
“I have been sailing canoes since I was 18, they are the most enjoyable boat I have ever sailed. There is no other boat that compares to the thrill of a sailing canoe,” says Hayden.
