Precision is important, especially when calculating dimensions for roll on/roll off shipments such as a client’s wheel loader shipment to Dubai.
The booked measurements for the vehicle were almost 18m3 less than the measurements calculated by the ships surveyor on delivery to the vessel at Port Kembla, so last minute adjustments were made to ensure the shipment went ahead as planned.
Transvoras director Martin Moyano says dimensional errors are occasionally made and can generally be easily rectified.
“The biggest issue is usually the unexpected cost as roll on roll off cargo such as this item are charged based on cubic metre calculations,” he says.
“Often these dimensions are standard, especially on equipment that is shipped frequently, but it always pays to check all measurements on each shipment to avoid any surprises.”
